Scott Pietrangelo

Scott Pietrangelo is the Founder and Artistic Director of SoundCrowd, currently celebrating its 4th year and 2nd appearance at Total Vocal. He has been a Toronto performer for over a decade, having appeared in such shows as Dear Evan Hansen (Mirvish), The Secret Garden (Wavestage Theatre) and The Last Five Years (Big Benn Productions). His music directing credits include productions of Rent, The Rocky Horror Show, Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof and more. He is thrilled to be once again sending members of SoundCrowd to Total Vocal, and he send his thanks to Deke for all his guidance and support.


SoundCrowd (soundcrowd.ca), Toronto’s first large-scale a cappella ensemble, made its debut in 2016 alongside former Barenaked Ladies front man Steven Page at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall. Since then, they have been featured guests on a national TV show (The Social) performed with other notable Toronto-based a cappella groups (Cadence, Countermeasure, Retrocity), opened for a cappella sensation DCappella, sang back up for Britain's Got Talent star Jonathan Antoine, were a featured ensemble at Total Vocal 2017 and are currently working on their first album, "All Voice, No Limits." SoundCrowd is the brainchild of Founder and Artistic Director, Scott Pietrangelo.

Rebecca Warren

Wexford pianist Rebecca Warren is a graduate of the MA in Classical String Performance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance where she studied violin performance and piano accompaniment with Mariana Sîrbu, Bruno Giuranna and Ferenc Szűcs. She holds a BA in Music from Waterford Institute of Technology and an Associate Diploma in Piano Performance from the London College of Music. Her teachers have included Marian Ingoldsby, Finghin Collins, Jan Čáp and Yekaterina Lebedeva. She has undertaken operatic and vocal accompaniment studies in Italy, the UK and Greece under the tutelage of vocal coaches Matteo Dalle Fratte, Manolis Papasifakis and Roberto Mingarini. Rebecca has been the musical director of Stagefright a cappella in Wexford, Ireland for almost five years.


Stagefright, an all-female a cappella group, was formed in Wexford, Ireland under the musical direction of Rebecca Warren BA(Hons)Mus MA ALCM. In 2016 the group was awarded a recording bursary by Wexford County Council Arts Office.The members of Stagefright all have musical and choral experience and have been involved in several local choirs such as Wexford Festival Singers, Frankly My Dear, Vocare, Friends in Harmony. Since its inception, the members of Stagefright have learned to read the musical score as well as the rhythm, pitch, tone and vocal percussion of unaccompanied choral singing, under the guidance of the musical director and through commitment to weekly rehearsals and regular workshops. The group’s reputation has been enhanced by their many entertaining local performances.

HC Voices (Hwa Chong Alumni Association)

Tommi Huang JunYao

Tommi Huang JunYao has been an active member of HC Voices (Hwa Chong Alumni Association) since 2009. Over the years, he participated in numerous local and international competitions and performances with the choir. In 2017, under his leadership as then President, HC Voices participated in the 4th Singapore International Choral Festival and emerged as champion in the Mixed Voice Open category. Tommi believes in broadening his musical perspective beyond choral musicianship. Alongside HC Voices, he has performed with several local A Cappella groups, such as NUS Resonance and Apex Project. He is passionate about sharing his musical experiences with fellow singers and choristers.


HC Voices (Hwa Chong Alumni Association) is the alumni choir of Hwa Chong Institution (College Section). Established in 2000, the choir has been an active participant in the local choral scene. In 2017, the choir participated in the 4th Singapore International Choral Festival and emerged as champion in the Mixed Voice Open category. Competitions aside, HC Voices strongly believes that good friends are an essential part of good music. Since 2001, the choir has been carolling at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore over the Christmas season, during which alumni from various batches return to make music with friends, both old and new.

Songbirds

Kelsey Belmonte

Kelsey Belmonte is the Music Director for the Songbirds, a group of Twitter employees who have been singing a cappella together for the past six years. The group appeared most recently at this year's Techapella Showcase in San Francisco, but also performs frequently within the company, and several members were seen in an impromptu jam session at Kelsey's wedding this fall! When not arranging or performing, Kelsey can be found baking, coding, or playing with her cat, Salem.


The Songbirds began singing together in 2012 (as Twee Club), and then "rebranded" to their current name two years later. Songbirds is an a cappella group aimed at spreading the joy of music via a cappella, and is proud to accept employees of all skill levels and musical backgrounds who share in that mission. The group has participated in the Techapella Showcase in San Francisco for the past six years, most recently this past November, and can often be found performing at internal company events.

Columbia High School Choirs

Kimberly A. Walley

Kimberly Walley is Director of Choral Activities at Columbia High School. Her choirs consist of Chamber Choir, Madrigal Ensemble, and Pop A cappella Ensemble. She also is the musical director for the school's yearly Broadway productions. Kimberly has been a music educator on the elementary, secondary and collegiate levels for the past nineteen years. Total Vocal is Kimberly's third Carnegie Experience. She is married to J. R. Walley and they have three children; Kaitlin Walley Brown (Dakota), Zachary Walley and Rachel Katherine Walley.


Columbia High School Choirs are comprised of students in grades ninth through twelfth and are under the direction of Kimberly Walley and Mitchell Crawford, assistant director. The students participate in at least one choral experience; Chamber Choir, Madrigal Ensemble, and Pop A Capella Ensemble. In addition to choir, many of the students participate in the Columbia High School marching and/or the school's annual Broadway productions.

Emma Mason and Rachel Mason

Emma Mason is a performing arts teacher and choreographer, with years of performing experience. She has recently enjoyed huge success choreographing floor routines for Team GB gymnasts competing at international level. Rachel Mason is a multi award-winning songwriter, singing teacher, arranger, performer and international vocal judge. She is delighted to be an ambassador for the charity WellChild and in 2018 was personally thanked and dubbed "an inspiration" by WellChild's patron HRH the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry. Emma and Rachel are proud mothers of two children each, and relish the challenge of regularly juggling motherhood and freelance work!


Amplify are not a choir.... Amplify are so much more than just a choir!! We perform unique, killer arrangements (written by our very own Musical Director) and add some smooth moves for good measure. We favour a wide variety of music from Frank Sinatra to Clean Bandit and everything in between. Our rehearsals sometimes feature cake and selfies, but mainly feel-good singing. We're just one big happy family, really!

Central High School A Cappella

Matt Parks

Matt Parks has directed choirs for the past 4 years at Central High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. During that time, his choirs have performed in Knoxville and Nashville, most notably for the Country Music Association Festival.


Central High School A Cappella has met before school daily for the past three years. They perform regularly in the Knoxville area for schools, churches, and community groups, as well as hosting a group of schools in May for their annual “Last Hurrah Cappella.”

Katherine Girvin

Katherine Girvin, a native of San Diego, attended the University of Missouri, Columbia where she received a Bachelors of Art and Science (2004), a Bachelors of Science in Middle School Education (2005) and a Masters in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction (2006). Katherine has been teaching choral education for eleven years and formed Chamber Bravura eight years ago. Katherine is also an Adjunct Professor at San Diego Christian College, where she teaches current teachers, Education majors, and supervises college students in their student teaching assignments in both San Diego and Orange Counties. Katherine has been named Choral Educator of the Year by CMEA Southern Border division (2012) and in the same year received the Mackenzie-Haney award, an Outstanding Choral Educator Award voted on by her colleagues throughout the San Diego Unified School District. Some of her directing highlights include St. Peter’s Basilica, Carnegie Hall, Harpa Concert Hall, and the Sydney Opera House. Katherine spent the last three years in educational leadership and continues to work with and direct choirs domestically and abroad.


Chamber Bravura is an internationally recognized, Southern California based a cappella choir. Our members range in age from 10-18 years old. Chamber Bravura has toured across the United States, performing in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Universal Studios Hollywood, Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure park among many other performance venues. We are proud to work once again under the direction of Deke Sharon in March 2020. On an international level, we have toured across Italy, Germany, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Wales, Prague and Iceland. We plan to tour China in the summer of 2020.

Stephanie Sant

Sant conducts the Moscow High School Encore Choir and Moscow High School Choir in Moscow, ID, home of the University of Idaho's Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. She has performed and conducted vocal jazz, classical, choral, and musical theater repertoire. She sings in the Palouse Choral Society's chorale and chamber choir, and conducts the Society's children's choir.


Encore, formerly known as the Moscow High School Jazz Choir, is an auditioned group of singers in grades 9-12 that rehearses twice a week throughout the school year to learn vocal jazz and seasonal holiday repertoire. Encore performs in the community and at school events, and competes in the University of Idaho's Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival each year. This year Encore expanded its focus to include a cappella music, connecting with popular culture as it grows musically.

Diamondback Singers

Jonny Dolan

Jonny Dolan began his choral music studies at Irvine Valley College, where he graduated with an Associates in Voice. From there, he received a bachelors in Choral Music Education from California State University, Fullerton, and finished his student teaching at Corona del Mar High School. Jonny has toured both as a singer and conductor in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and Serbia; and while in Slovakia, Jonny’s choir won first place in the Bratislava Youth Festival. Currently, Jonny is enjoying a rich and fulfilling career as the choral director at Serrano High School.


Diamondback Singers is the flagship chamber ensemble at Serrano High School. The students of Diamondback Singers specialize in a rich variety of a cappella choral repertoire. They have sung a number of different genres, ranging from early Renaissance to modern Arabic. Additionally, each member of Diamondback Singers is equipped with the musical and technical conventions to sing independent parts, creating the possibility of thirteen-part arrangements. Diamondback Singers frequents festivals in throughout Southern California, and are excited to participate in their first national tour.

Cody Qualls, Artistic Director; Stephen Ross, Musical Director

Cody Qualls is an internationally recognized vocalist and award winning songwriter from Louisville, CO. Cody currently composes and tours as lead tenor with the world-renowned rock-a cappella ensemble, Face Vocal Band. He is the founder of Rock Choir Colorado and the director Face Academy of Music. More at codyqualls.com. Stephen Ross is the music director, arranger, and countertenor for Face Vocal Band. He is an award-winning choral conductor who currently directs the 150 voice Coal Creek Community Chorus in Louisville, CO. Stephen is highly sought after for a cappella arrangements, having created custom pieces for vocal groups around the world.


Face Academy of Music was founded in 2003 by Face Vocal Band, whose members are active educators in the a cappella and choral community, and serves over 400 students every trimester. In 2019 alone, Face toured the world extensively while simultaneously raising funds for music education, and has taken our Face Academy of Music students to perform with them on many of the most sought after stages; from TEDx and Red Rocks Amphitheater, all the way to Samara, Costa Rica. Through a variety of outlets, including choirs, ensembles, and songwriting/production, members of FAM learn the skills to grow through music.

Mary Kay Butcher-Babcock

Mary Kay Butcher-Babcock is an advocate for the performing arts. She is passionate about teaching young people quality choral music, healthy vocal production, and giving them the gift of music for life! Mary Kay currently has an initial administrator’s license and a K-12 music education license in the state of Oregon. Fall of 2000, Mary Kay was hired to be a K-6 music specialist at Jackson Elementary School. Mary Kay also serves the music ministry as an accompanist and choir member for St. Matthew Catholic Church- Hillsboro. Mary Kay is a former member of The Oregon Chorale and performed as an Alto under the direction of Bernd R. Kuehn. In 2006, Mary Kay was honored to perform the Canadian National Anthem for the Portland LumberJax Lacrosse game located at the Portland Rose Garden Arena. Mary Kay is a 1990 graduate from Cheyenne Public High School - Cheyenne, Oklahoma. She studied piano with Lorena G. Males and Dr. James Breckenridge and voice with Dr. Debra Spurgeon and obtained her undergraduate degree in Music Education K-12 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University – Weatherford, Oklahoma. It was at SWOSU where Mary Kay became a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, Gamma Gamma Chapter 1992. In 2010, Mary Kay graduated with a Masters of Education Degree in Education Administration from Concordia University-Portland, Oregon. In 2003, she became the choir director for Century High School and R. A. Brown Middle School for Hillsboro School District - Hillsboro, Oregon. In the summer of 2004, she was one of the selected student conductors at the Haystack Program in the Arts and Sciences sponsored by Portland State University under the direction of Dr. Rodney Eichenberger - Cannon Beach, Oregon. As of July 2015, Mary Kay was selected to serve the Hillsboro School District (HSD) as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) as their Secondary Music Supervisor. Mary Kay and her husband Ron currently reside in Hillsboro, Oregon along with their Chinese Shar Peis, Chidi and Barkley Babcock. They enjoy hosting foreign exchange students through the Council for Educational Travel, USA. (CETUSA) Mary Kay enjoys exploring and taking photos of the Pacific Northwest along with her family; via hiking, cycling, and road trips.


CENTURY CHOIRS Century Choirs are under the direction of Mary Kay Butcher-Babcock and accompanied by Reece Sauvé. Bassic Harmony is the tenor/bass ensemble. They have been district champions and have placed at Oregon Music Education Association (OMEA) state ensemble competition for the past four years. Treble Makers is the treble chorus. The ensemble has a 16-year running record of receiving Superior ratings at the OMEA District 15 Competition. Century Concert Choir is Century High School’s auditioned festival choir. In 2003, Century Concert Choir competed at the Oregon Schools Activities Association (OSAA) state choir competition and toured Canada that same year. In 2006 the Concert Choir traveled to Anaheim and competed at the Heritage Festival and received a Gold rating. In 2008, the Concert Choir performed at the United Nations, Lincoln Center, and Saint John the Divine Cathedral in Harlem. In 2010, Century Concert Choir competed and placed 10th in the 5A division at the OSAA state choir competition. In 2013, members of Century Concert Choir traveled to New York and performed “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere,” under the direction of René Clausen at Avery Fisher Hall in the Lincoln Center. Counterpoint is Century High School’s select ensemble. Spring of 2004, the group traveled to New York City and performed Randall Thompson’s “Frostianas,” at Carnegie Hall and were accompanied by the New England Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Griffith. In 2006 the group traveled to Anaheim and competed at the Heritage Festival and received a Gold rating. Counterpoint has a 10-year running record for auditioning for and being selected to sing the National Anthem for the Portland Trailblazers. Counterpoint has also performed at the ACDA Oregon Ensemble Festival and the Invitational Chamber Ensemble Festival. Counterpoint has a 15-year running record of receiving Superior ratings at the OMEA District 15 Competition.

Anne Marie Oldham

Director Anne Marie Oldham studied Choral Music Education as well as voice and piano at University of Michigan School of Music and later received her law degree from University of California, Davis. After practicing corporate and international law for 20 years, she returned to music education. Ms. Oldham has a passion for combining the arts with sustainability and social justice. She has been the Music Director at St. James Academy in Solana Beach, California, for over ten years and teaches private piano and voice lessons. She is thankful to her family, students, school and church community for their loving support.


Ms. Oldham formed the private Vocal Academy@St. James at the request of graduates of St. James Academy. The Vocal Academy includes accomplished high school vocalists from high schools in North San Diego as well as talented junior high singers currently attending St. James Academy. The Vocal Academy is honored to be performing at Total Vocal for the sixth year in a row! This year is extra special for the Vocal Academy because our alumni singer Kat Hammock is a featured guest artist after her recent success on NBC’s The Voice. A huge thank you to Deke Sharon and DCINY!

ONCUE Division of the Youth Singers of Calgary

Dean Lauderdale

Dean Lauderdale is a Calgary-based musician who specializes in teaching and performing. Dean teaches private voice/guitar/piano lessons of all skill levels at his private studio. He is highly involved in the Calgary music scene, performing with his a cappella group, ONCUE, and as a one-man-band at venues all around Calgary. Dean holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Humber College as well as a Music Diploma in Classical Vocal Performance from Mount Royal University. Aside from teaching and performing, Dean is a songwriter, producer, and arranger and looks forward to being part of Total Vocal with Deke Sharon.


Youth Singers of Calgary has been performing for over thirty years and has built a reputation as a world-class, award-winning show choir for singers from ages 3 to adult. Their performances are always energetic, moving, and memorable, and every show is a testament to the sheer joy in music that the program instills in its performers. ONCUE, a division of the Youth Singers of Calgary, is a renowned professional ensemble featuring smooth award-winning harmonies and musical theatre blended into a unique brand of top-notch entertainment. Their diverse and versatile repertoire has won them many awards and a strong reputation as a premiere vocal ensemble throughout Western Canada and beyond.

Mary Doucette and Eric Heck

Mary Doucette and Eric Heck have been co-directing this student run group for almost a year and a half. Both are graduating seniors at Eckerd College and are passionate about creating an atmosphere that encourages creativity, fun, and growth within the group. Mary, a sociology and environmental studies double major, has been a part of the Tritones for four years and is the president. Eric, a music major, has been a member of the group for three years and is the elected music director.


The Tritones are a co-ed group that is open for students of all musical backgrounds to audition for. In addition to this, we bring together students from a variety of fields of study in order to express our love for music. Each year our sound and song selections change as a result of the different interests of our members. All members have a voice in decisions of the group, whether it be what performances we do or songs we sing. We hold one showcase at the end of each semester in conjunction with other performances within our college and community.

Alex Fiddes

Alex is a graduate of the Music Theatre Performance program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Canada. He has had the privilege of leading adult choirs throughout the Greater Toronto Area for the past 5 years. He believes that positivity, encouragement, and embracing the joys and love of singing are at the core of a successful choir term. Every session is a fun-filled, silly time where members let their guard down for an evening, sing some music together, and leave with that wonderful feeling you get from singing together. He calls that feeling a “Choir High” and it is something you have to experience first hand to understand. Alex is honoured to be a part of this fantastic project and grateful to be invited back for another year!


My Pop Choir's performance ensemble for this concert, is made up of eager volunteer members of all 5 of its Toronto area choirs. Singers come from all walks of life but share the love of singing and pride in creating a beautiful sound. Having performed at major venues such as the Royal Ontario Museum, the Toronto International Film Festival and on Toronto television, as well as being featured performers in Canada's official Sesqui-Centennial movie, Horizons, these My Pop Choir's members are delighted to be part of DCINY production, Total Vocal this year.

Burstin' With Broadway

Dominique Hogan

Dominique Hogan is the Conductor and Founder of "Burstin’ with Broadway" a 175 member non auditioned chorus in Vancouver, Canada. It began with 8 people in her living room. She has worked across the US and Canada as Musical Director/Accompanist, Teacher and Arranger in Musical Theatre and Opera. Dominique holds a MMus in Musical Direction for Musical Theatre under full scholarship from Arizona State University, a BMus in Music Theory from McGill University, and a Diploma of Collegial Studies in Music under scholarship from Marianopolis College. Dominique also teaches voice and produces concerts. www.dominiquehogan.com


Burstin’ with Broadway was founded in January of 2005 by Dominique Hogan. It is a 175 member SATB performance group on the North Shore of Vancouver, BC. Canada. We are non-auditioned, the only pre-requisite for joining is that you love to sing, and commit to attending rehearsals on Tuesday nights. We have great fun and sing music from the Musical Theatre repertoire and produce shows which are theatrical. We currently have a waitlist of 60 women.

Betsy Bergeron

Betsy Bergeron has been directing the Greens Farms Academy Choirs and cappella groups for the past 32 years. A veteran teacher of 38 years, she continues to be energized by the wonderful singers that she gets to work with on a daily basis.


Greens Farms Academy has a strong history of a cappella singing that goes back 32 years. Our 4 singers represent the best of our Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and a cappella groups. This is our second time performing with Total Vocal.

The San Diego Chorus

Kathleen Hansen

Kathleen Hansen has been working in the field of music education and performance since 1998. She has a Bachelor of Music Degree, specializing in music education and trumpet and a Masters Degree, specializing in conducting. She is currently the musical and artistic director of the San Diego Chorus of Sweet Adelines, the Sun Harbor Chorus and the San Diego Women's Chorus. She is an active clinician, musical adjudicator, presenter and coach Kathleen was recently appointed to the international faculty of Sweet Adelines International.


The San Diego Chorus was chartered in 1955 as a chapter of Sweet Adelines International Over its long history, it has sung and performed at the highest levels and has been an international contestant many years. The chorus has been International Sweet Adelines Champion twice and we cherish those gold medals. We welcome women from all walks of life and musical experience and we are proud of the education and support we provide.

Michael F. Polutnik

Mr. Michael Polutnik is the Director of Choirs at Desert Oasis High School located in Las Vegas, NV. This is Mr. Polutnik's 9th year at Desert Oasis HS and 25th year of teaching. The Choir program consistently receives "Superior" ratings at Choral Festivals in Nevada, California, and Arizona. Our first performance at Carnegie Hall was in 2013 under the direction of composer and UNLV alumni, Eric Whitacre. Mr. Polutnik serves as Co-Chair of the CCSD High School Honor Choir and was recently elected to serve as President Nevada ACDA (American Choral Director's Association) for the 2020-21 school year.


The Desert Oasis HS Chamber/A Cappella ensembles are excited to be representing CCSD, Las Vegas, and the state of Nevada at the "Total Vocal" Carnegie Hall performance. The Choral program consistently receive "Superior" ratings at Choral Festivals throughout Nevada, Arizona, and California. The Choirs have also won the Heritage Festival Outstanding Choral Ensemble, Sweepstakes Award, and Best Overall Choral Ensemble numerous times, including several first place awards.

YVR POP CHOIR

Have volunteered and supported YVR POP since mid 2017. Have always had a deep passion for everything music. This Choir has opened up my eyes to the beauty of group vocals and the unique power they can bring to a song.


YVR POP CHOIR is a choir of 70 singers from Vancouver BC, Canada. The Choir Director Rebecca Lam formed YVR POP in 2016. We sing Pop, Indie & R&B from artists like Lauryn Hill, Feist, Mumford & Sons, Beyonce and more. 100% of the proceeds from our shows go toward supporting local animal charities. To date we have donated over $30,000 to Vancouver animal rescue societies.

Ashley Bolling is the proud director of pop a cappella ensembles and showchoirs at Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, MS. She received her bachelor's and master's degree in Music Education from William Carey University and is in her twelfth year of teaching. She has the privilege of directing these groups alongside her husband, Aaron. They have 3 beautiful children who all enjoy watching her "big kids" perform. The Bollings are so proud of their students as SPECTRA makes its Carnegie Hall debut!


SPECTRA is the premier pop a cappella ensemble from Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, MS. Members are 9th-12th graders who represent programs from all walks of campus life including theatre, speech and debate, band, swim, soccer, and showchoirs, along with advanced academic courses and community service groups. The ensemble evolved from a non-auditioned pop choir and is continuing to polish their skills, representing OGHS on and off campus. SPECTRA is thrilled to be making their Carnegie Hall debut at DCINY!
