Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY), a New York City based classical music production company, has announced its newest addition to its Advisory Board -- Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt, Associate Director of the School of Music, Professor of Choral Studies, and the Director of Choral Activities at Ohio State University. DCINY is pleased to make the announcement amidst continued growth and dynamism, with its third concert season set to launch in January 2010.

"Dr. Apfelstadt conducts a 50+ member chorale, teaches conducting, and coordinates a graduate conducting program," said Co-founder and General Director, Iris Derke. "Her wealth of knowledge and expertise concerning collegiate choirs through her academic posts at OSU are invaluable to DCINY. Additionally, she cares deeply about the power of community and the promise of education -- DCINY will benefit greatly from her commitments and contributions."

DCINY's Advisory Board is a select panel consisting of distinguished composers, performers, and educators of contemporary classical and choral music. Dr. Apfelstadt will join Eph Ehly, Janet Galván, Karl Jenkins, Morten Lauridsen, Craig Kirchhoff, Craig Jessop, and Hugh Davies as the eighth member of this prestigious Board.

Bio of Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt

Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt is Associate Director of the School of Music, Professor of Choral Studies, and is the Director of Choral Activities at Ohio State University. She is also National Vice President of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) through June 2011. From 1993-2008, Dr. Apfelstadt conducted the OSU Women's Glee Club and continues to serve as their faculty advisor. Collegiate choirs under her direction have performed at regional and national conventions of the ACDA and at state and regional conferences of the National Association of Music Education (MENC). She has conducted many honor choirs and all-state choruses throughout the United States, and has guest conducted in Cuba, England and in Europe. In 2009, she conducted the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in a public broadcast of "Music and the Spoken Word."

A prolific author, Dr. Apfelstadt has published over seventy articles on choral music in various refereed journals, and wrote two chapters in Wisdom, Will and Will: Women Conductors on their Art (GIA Publications, Inc, 2009). She also serves on the editorial boards of both the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing and also The Choral Scholar, the official publication of the National Collegiate Conductors Organization (NCCO).

Dr. Apfelstadt's degrees are from the University of Toronto, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also has an associate diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
