Acclaimed musical theater piece by rock star classical composer Eric Whitacre will make its Chicago debut
Eric Whitacre, creator and driving force behind the "Virtual Choir," will conduct the Chicago premiere of his musical theatre work "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings" at Auditorium Theatre, Roosevelt University, on March 8, 2011, at 2:00 PM, a prelude performance to the 2011 American Choral Directors Association National Conference.
"Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings" combines varied musical traditions

Infused with the style of Japanese anime and manga, "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings" is a powerful and visceral hybrid of musical theater, opera, electronica, film score and Asian drumming. A diverse chorus assembled by DCINY from around the US will join the cast of seven soloists, which includes international star soprano Hila Plitmann. The concert will also feature a solo cello, a DJ, and Japanese "taiko" drums.
Critics sing praises of "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings" and its composer "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings" has won an impressive array of accolades. Bob Verini of Variety wrote of the sold-out, six-week run in 2007 in Los Angeles, "Musically lush, committed and smart," calling Whitacre "an exciting new, and potentially important, figure in the musical theater." Of DCINY's June 2010 production in New York City's Carnegie Hall, the Epoch Times wrote, "The music was chillingly beautiful... breathtaking." Winner of the ASCAP Harold Arlen award, "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings" also gained Whitacre the prestigious Richard Rodgers Award for most promising musical theatre composer.
