An Inspirational Concert Event Celebrating the Journey of Life
Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) presents the 10th Anniversary performance of Sing for the Cure, a joint project of the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Turtle Creek Chorale, at Isaac Stern Auditorium in Carnegie Hall on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at 8:30 pm. Also to be performed is the World Premiere of Joseph Martin's Heartsongs, based on the works of American poet Mattie Stepanek (1990-2004).
More on Sing for the Cure
Maestro Timothy Seelig leads this special anniversary performance of Sing for the Cure, benefitting the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The work utilizes moving music and a spoken word narration to send its message. DCINY has engaged René Syler to serve as narrator, who served as a co-host on CBS News' The Early Show from 2002 - 2006. This piece has been performed all over the United States, Canada and Europe since its June, 2000 World Premiere in Dallas. These performances have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars towards the funding of breast cancer awareness, prevention and treatment.
More on Martin's Heartsongs Maestro Stephen Roddy presents the World Premiere of Joseph Martin's Heartsongs. The work utilizes the award-winning poetry of Mattie Stepanek from his series of books, The Heartsongs, which became New York Times bestsellers. Although he struggled with a rare form of muscular dystrophy, he expressed wisdom and insight as a poet, philosopher and peacemaker. He wrote movingly and courageously about joy, diversity, nature, life, loss and hope. Throughout Mattie's short life, his message of peace was acknowledged by many political, cultural and media luminaries such as President Jimmy Carter, Maya Angelou, Larry King, Oprah Winfrey and Niles Rodgers. Mr. Martin has set Mattie's poetry to music in an inspiring homage to his message. These choral songs highlight life's challenges and celebrate its beauty. More information about Mattie may be found by visiting www.mattieonline.com.
