A Concert Celebrating a Complex and Emotional Story
|
Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) presents an
evening of moving music, describing the journey of the African-American
people, in The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Friday, June 18,
2010 at 8:00 pm. Darcy Reese leads members of the Lincoln High School
Choir and the Twin Cities Gospel Choir and Jazz Band. The program also
features gospel singer Robert Robinson. |
More on the Performance
|
The audience experiences a journey of strength, persecution,
tribulation, and finally celebration through the evening's performance.
Singers, dancers, and drummers begin the story in Africa. From there,
the tale continues to a strange land of uncertainty where life has been
dramatically changed. Throughout the performance, the drum weaves the
voice of the people and beautiful words and harmonies bring the
listeners through each new era. African songs, spirituals, freedom
songs, civil rights songs, jazz, and finally gospel songs are all woven
throughout this beautiful journey of hope and strength. |
