FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Distinguished Concert Artists International New York (DCINY) is proud to present the world premiere of The Peacemakers by Karl Jenkins, the most performed living classical composer in the world. The Peacemakers, a major work for large choir, orchestra with solo instrumentalists, offers inspiration and solace for a time in need of both. The works weaves together texts from several of the greatest peacemakers throughout history, including Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., The Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and Mother Theresa, as well as words from the Bible and the Qu'ran. Mr. Jenkins will conduct the premiere performance on Monday, January 16 at 7:00pm at Carnegie Hall, which will feature several choirs, including two children's choirs, and orchestra to total over 300 musicians.

The Peacemakers will be the Welsh composer's first major work to premiere outside of the UK. "DCINY is honoured to have the opportunity to present this thrilling and poignant world premiere, having already introduced the music of Karl Jenkins to American audiences in multiple US premieres," comments Artistic Director Jonathan Griffith. Possessing a style and integrity that transcends musical boundaries, Karl Jenkins has composed music for HRH The Prince of Wales, Bryn Terfel, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dame Evelyn Glennie and the London Symphony Orchestra, amongst many others. DCINY recently presented Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 at Avery Fisher Hall, a work that has been performed nearly 1000 times in 20 different countries.

The January 16 performance follows with the release of the world premiere recording of The Peacemakers on EMI Classics (January 9, 2012) featuring the strings of the London Symphony Orchestra and several vocal forces, including the City of Birmingham Youth Choir, Rundfunkchor Berlin, and the 1000-strong Really Big Chorus.

The concert will also include two instrumental works by Karl Jenkins and conducted by Jonathan Griffith. The violin concerto Sarikiz, which was premiered in January 2009 and is based in part on Kazakh folk melodies, will be performed by the Honduran-American violinist Jorge Avila, concertmaster of Distinguished Concerts Orchestra International since 2008. Jenkins' The Wooing of Etain, an excerpt from Adiemus IV (The Eternal Knot), will be heard in its US Premiere. The Peacemakers and The Wooing of Etain will also feature several additional musicians including James Nyoraku Schlefer on Shakuhachi or Japanese bamboo flute. And, from NYJAZZ Initiative, a nonprofit organization which fosters the creative spirit and advancement of jazz arts by offering educational and performance opportunities to inspire the next generation: saxophonist Rob Derke (Artistic Director of NYJAZZ), bassist Carlo De Rosa, and world music percussionist Benny Koonyevsky.

A third instrumental work on the program is by Carol Barratt, wife of Karl Jenkins, and one of the contributors to the text of The Peacemakers: Fantasy Prelude will be performed by pianist Danny Evans and is also a US premiere.
