Distinguished Concerts Orchestra International, under the baton of Maestro Jonathan Griffith, will perform Mozart's Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra, K 299 with special soloists DCINY Co-founder and General Director Iris Derke (flute) and Kirsten Agresta (harp), on Memorial Day, May 25, at 8:00 PM at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. The concert will open with Mozart's beautiful Serenade, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (K 525).
The second half of the concert will feature the Distinguished Concerts Singers International, comprised of auditioned choruses from across North America, including New York City's own New York City Master Chorale (director Dr. Thea Kano), and the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra International in a performance of Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna, a work that National Public Radio calls "...music to speak directly to the human heart."
Co-founder of Distinguished Concerts International New York, Dr. Jonathan Griffith is an active conductor, educator, lecturer, and consultant. His many conducting credits in this country and abroad include the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Manhattan Philharmonic, New England Symphonic Ensemble, and The European Symphony Orchestra. Maestro Griffith received his B.M.E from the University of Kansas, an M.M.E. from Wichita State University, and his D.M.A. in Conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
A versatile artist, flautist Iris Derke's performances have taken her throughout the world, from across the US to Europe and the Middle East. Ms. Derke has appeared as concerto soloist at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, as well as with the Polish National Symphony and the International Forum of New Music in Mexico City. Her special interests as co-founder of Distinguished Concerts International New York have continually focused her talents on the performance of works by new and modern composers.
Harpist Kirsten Agresta has performed extensively throughout the United States, South America, Europe, Israel, and Japan. She has performed three solo recitals in Carnegie Weill's Recital Hall, and debuted as concerto soloist at Carnegie's Isaac Stern Auditorium in 2006. Ms. Agresta is a member of the Music Faculty at Sarah Lawrence College and also maintains a private teaching studio in New York City.
The New York City Master Chorale has performed at such premiere venues as Riverside Church, Church of St. Paul the Apostle, Symphony Space, and Alice Tully Hall. Its founder, conductor, and artistic director, Dr. Thea Kano, also serves as assistant music director of the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington DC, associate conductor of the Washington Chorus, and is the artistic director of the Capital Hill Youth Chorus.
In just two short years, DCINY has joined the ranks of major classical music production companies in America, nearly doubling its roster of participating ensembles and attracting high quality talent domestically and internationally. In less than two short concert seasons, DCINY has presented 21 concerts ranging from solo and chamber music recitals in Weill Recital Hall and Zankel Hall, at Carnegie Hall, to North American and World Premieres by internationally recognized composers Karl Jenkins and Eric Whitacre in Isaac Stern Auditorium, Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center.
