DCINY Artist Series
As part of the Distinguished Concerts International New York's Artist Series, the Ferdiko piano duo, comprised of virtuoso pianists Noriko Suzuki and Ferdy Tumakaka, will appear at Merkin Concert Hall on June 20, 2009 at 8:00 PM for a unique recital featuring Debussy, Ravel, and pioneering works by such contemporary music visionaries as American Academy Award and Pulitzer Prize winning composer John Corigliano, National Endowment for the Arts and ASCAP award winner David Noon, and BMI Foundation Charlie Parker Jazz Prize Winner, Jose Bevia.
Jose Bevia World Premiere and David Noon "Unplugged"
The spotlight of the concert will be Ferdiko's World Premiere performance of Jose Bevia's Three Enigmas, specially commissioned for the duo. Ferdiko's performance of the three-movement, multi-media work will mimic suite themes - patterns and complexities that organically arise from the simple - as the music will be accompanied by live projection of digital art by award-winning artist Dean Radinovsky. A second "plugged-in" feature of the program will be Ferdiko's indelible performance of Noon's haunting and exquisite four-movement work, Art Deco, which has created a small You Tube sensation. Ferdiko's specially micro phoned pianos will synchronize and trigger live video art displays by celebrated multi-media artist and musician, Cyrus von Hochstetter.
Ferdiko
In 2007, Manhattan School of Music alumni Noriko Suzuki and Ferdy Tumakaka, award-winning pianists with vastly different styles, joined forces to form a unique partnership. Noriko, 2002 winner of the IBLA Most Distinguished Musician Award and Kabalevsky Special Prize, and second prize winner of the 1999 Soulima and Françoise Stravinsky New Millennium International Competition, is known for her tonal richness and great range of dynamic gradations, while Ferdy, who made his debut at 17 as the first-prize winner of the Jakarta Piano Competition, adds a consummate verve and sensibility to the mix. Established performers in their own right; both have soloed on three continents, Ferdy most recently at the 10th International Chopin and Friends Festival at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, and Noriko with Japan's "Great Artists" Symphony Orchestra at the Tokyo International Forum.
Dr. Jose Miguel Bevia is an award-winning, internationally recognized composer. His compositions have been performed in Spain, the Czech Republic, The Netherlands, and the U.S. Prestigious groups and ensembles have commissioned his works, including The Commission Project, the BMI Foundation, Arielle, and Ferdiko.
