DCINY's "Excellence in Education" Series Showcases Three Middle School Instrumental Ensembles at Carnegie Hall, March 23, 2008

Three middle schools from Walnut Valley Unified School District in California will perform at Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, March 23, 2008, at 8:30 p.m.

 

Opening the program will be a performance by South Pointe Middle School Orchestra, directed by Susan Willmering. The group will perform "Kirkpatrick Fanfare" by Andrew Boysen, Jr.; "Creepy Little Wiggly Things" by Gary Gilroy; "The Iliad" by Robert W. Smith; "The Four Winds, Sinfonia XVII" by Timothy Broege; and "Shape Shifters" by Steven Schmidt.

 

The Suzanne Middle School Chamber Orchestra, led by Ami Custodia and Jeffrey Blackstone, will perform "Ashford Celebration" by Ralph Ford; Bass solo featuring Carlos Rivera, Jr. ; "Scherzo" from Serenade No. 1 by Brahms, arr. Meyer; "Rhosymedre," by Vaughn Williams, orch. Foster; and "March to the Scaffold" from Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz, arr. Meyer.

 

Gregory P. Rochford will lead the Chaparral Middle School Orchestra in Jeffrey S. Bishop's "Declarations," Sibelius' "Andante Festivo," Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera," arr. Paul Jennings; and selections from Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition," arr. Gregory P. Rochford.

 

Distinguished Concerts International New York was founded in early 2007 by Iris Derke, General Director; and Jonathan Griffith, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. DCINY provides opportunities for choral, instrumental, jazz, and chamber ensembles, as well as conductors and soloists, to perform at such venues as Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Town Hall in New York City. A strong component of DCINY's mission is to enhance the concert experience through educational programs and incentives. These include support in meeting performance standards and optional master classes and seminars.
