About the Ensemble
The Pianist Program at the Orange County High School of the Arts in
Santa Ana, California augments the training of high school pianists
whose goals include a performing or academic career. In addition to
music theory, history, and various electives such as music technology,
conducting, and composition, the Pianist Program offers classes in solo
performance training, piano ensemble, score and sight reading, piano
skills and style topics, jazz piano, jazz ensembles, chamber music, and
accompanying. Pianists may choose to focus on classical music or jazz.
In addition to weekly staff teachers, visiting artist teachers such
as Ingrid Fliter, Antoinette Perry, T. J. Lymenstull, and Max Levinson
offer coaching to students in the Piano Master Class approximately every
three to four weeks. Pianist Program students have gone on to attend
The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, USC Thornton School of
Music, Colburn Conservatory, Cal Arts, Indiana University, and the
Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, amongst many
others, and are working toward or have begun careers in solo
performance, collaborative keyboard arts, music industry, musicology,
composing and arranging, and teaching. Graduates are active in all
musical genres, including classical, jazz, and commercial music.
