About the Ensemble

The Pianist Program at the Orange County High School of the Arts in Santa Ana, California augments the training of high school pianists whose goals include a performing or academic career. In addition to music theory, history, and various electives such as music technology, conducting, and composition, the Pianist Program offers classes in solo performance training, piano ensemble, score and sight reading, piano skills and style topics, jazz piano, jazz ensembles, chamber music, and accompanying. Pianists may choose to focus on classical music or jazz.

In addition to weekly staff teachers, visiting artist teachers such as Ingrid Fliter, Antoinette Perry, T. J. Lymenstull, and Max Levinson offer coaching to students in the Piano Master Class approximately every three to four weeks. Pianist Program students have gone on to attend The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, USC Thornton School of Music, Colburn Conservatory, Cal Arts, Indiana University, and the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, amongst many others, and are working toward or have begun careers in solo performance, collaborative keyboard arts, music industry, musicology, composing and arranging, and teaching. Graduates are active in all musical genres, including classical, jazz, and commercial music.
