The difference between DCI-NY and other companies was apparent immediately upon entering the rehearsal room. I knew when you requested the heights of all the performers in advance that some pre-organizing was taking place. To set up the concert standing order in advance was brilliant; no more wasting 30-40 minutes of rehearsal time with lining up by height. The name tags were another stroke of genius which saved me a lot of time in answering questions. Everything my singers needed to know was printed on their laminated card!
I also appreciated that we had lots of breathing room on stage. The performance was clearly more important to you than the number of performers paying their fees. I hope you were pleased with the result.
Jonathan, you are an amazing teacher. I have notes all over the inside cover of my music to remind myself of some of the things you did so I can incorporate them in my teaching for next year. Whenever I perform with you, I feel as if I am getting a performance opportunity and a workshop in how to prepare the music all for the same price! You remind me to do things in my class that I once did, but have somehow fallen by the wayside (the silent inhalations). You give me new ideas to try (the choir's "personal dynamic levels"). I love working with you and I love that my students get the opportunity to work with you! You are immensely likable and energetic from the first moment we meet you. Everyone in the room is drawn to your vision and eagerly wants to please you. I don't know how you do it!
Thank you so much again for an incredible experience.
