US Premiere Performance of Karl Jenkins' For the Fallen: In Memoriam Alfryn Jenkins
For the Fallen: In Memoriam Alfryn Jenkins is a setting of Laurence Binyon's poem, which is recited across the world every Remembrance Day, and is dedicated to the memory of the composer's viola-playing uncle, Pilot Officer Alfryn Jenkins. He was captain of a Lancaster Bomber which was lost in action, together with his all-Welsh crew, during a raid over Berlin in 1944. Karl Jenkins was born in February of that year. The setting opens with a viola solo as an homage to Alfryn Jenkins and incorporates The Last Post.
The brand new piece will receive its world premiere performance at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall on November 13, 2010, and will later be broadcast on BBC TV. DCINY will present its US premiere performance on September 11, 2011 at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center. Karl Jenkins will be the guest conductor for the performance.

Eric Whitacre Receives Rave Reviews for Performance with London Symphony Orchestra!
Going into our third season working with Eric Whitacre is especially exciting, as he is coming off both the launch of his second Virtual Choir project and also a successful, high profile conducting performance with the London Symphony Orchestra at Barbican Hall in London this past October. Eric presented a program entitled Songs from America, featuring the music of Barber, Copland, and Lauridsen, along with a number of his own works, including the world premiere of Songs of Immortality. Reviews of the performance have been fantastic, and we at DCINY cannot wait for our own upcoming performances with Eric in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles!

Karl Jenkins' Gloria - Narration
With the debut of Karl Jenkins' Gloria on January 17th, 2011 at Carnegie Hall, we are excited to provide an amazing experience with both the music and narration of the piece. The piece requires four narrators reciting texts from four religious traditions. Music brings people from all walks of life together, and this concert will do just that.
Between the movements of the Latin text of Gloria, an ancient hymn of praise from the Christian tradition, Jenkins has chosen readings from the texts of other religions, performed in order of their establishment. First is an excerpt from the Bhagavadgita (Song of the Divine), the classic Hindu scripture. Second are the last lines of the Diamond Sutra, the world's oldest dated printed book. Third is the opening of the principal Taoist scripture, the Tao Te Ching (The Classic of the Way and Virtue). And finally will be the first chapter of the Qur'an, known as “Al Fatiha” (The Opening), which is recited in Muslim daily prayers.
This should be an exciting collaboration and exemplifies another way that music truly is the universal language! DCINY is very excited to present this groundbreaking performance.
