Meet the DCINY Production Staff
The DCINY Production Staff is comprised of a number of hardworking individuals who are active in the New York City area as performers and educators, with several still working towards future careers in NYC area universities. The staff includes graduates of Juilliard, NYU, and the Manhattan School of Music, with the majority of the staff holding graduate degrees. This is an opportunity to meet some of these talented DCINY Production Staff members who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that all DCINY Concerts are a success.
Chelsea Delgado is thrilled to be back for her third season with Distinguished Concerts International New York! Chelsea has spent more than half her life on and behind stage, performing professionally since she was eight years old. A regional National Association of Teachers of Singers competition winner at the age of seventeen, Chelsea also attended The Mannes College of Music for Classical Voice and Opera. Currently an International Criminal Justice major at The John Jay College of Criminal Justice, she is also pursuing a double minor in English and Public Administration. Earlier this year, Chelsea worked with New Alternatives for Children, assisting with the planning and execution of their annual gala benefit at the Pierre Hotel to raise money for children with disabilities. She is excited to begin the 2010 season and work with so many new groups, as well as see some familiar faces back again!

DCINY staff and friends gather for a memorable time at Rosie O'Grady's.

Chelsea keeps a close watch on her chocolate cake.

Despite the pretty wrapping, we had no trouble tearing into our Secret Santa gifts.

DCINY Celebrates the Holidays
Although our new season is just around the corner, the DCINY staff gathered on a recent evening to celebrate the holiday season. Also in attendance were members of our seasonal production staff and other invited guests. The event took place at Rosie O'Grady's, a steak and seafood house in Manhattan. The evening began with cocktails, appetizers and conversation. Everyone had the chance to mingle and relax. We then sat at one long communal table as dinner was served. It was a good opportunity to get to know one another better and have fun in a situation outside of work. As the year came to an end, we appreciated the welcomed break and made connections which will, in turn, make our work environment more enjoyable. A great time was had by all, and it helped to jump-start the holidays!
We also had a blast at our annual "Secret Santa" exchange on December 9th. We took a little break from our hectic work day to appreciate the holiday season in our office and exchange our gifts. Each person had fun guessing who their Secret Santa was. Everyone loved their gifts and we especially had a wonderful time partaking of the gift that Danka, Financial Director, gave to Arupa, Executive Assistant --- a jelly bean dispenser! Needless to say we all stopped by Arupa's desk a few times that day! We hope that everyone enjoyed their holiday season and here's to a wonderful 2010!

Emily Sharrett made the big move to NYC and DCINY in August. |
DCINY Staff Works As a Team
by Emily Sharrett, Administration
New York City can be pretty intimidating to work in every day to someone who hasn't even been to it before. Coming from the southern city of Jacksonville, I was nervous about moving to New York because of the rumors I heard about how mean people are here. I'm not sure where these rumors came from other than the crazy drivers you see! During the time it has taken to get adjusted to a different lifestyle in a new and huge place, the staff at DCINY has been very supportive and friendly. We are a team here. Everybody works together, helps each other and cares about how and what they contribute to this wonderful company. We all work very hard because we care about bringing wonderful experiences and high- quality concerts to all the choirs and ensembles that perform with us and to those in the audience. I am a chorister myself, I and think it is so rewarding to be able to contribute to the production of concerts like Eric Whitacre’s Paradise Lost. I think everyone that works here feels the same way, which is why we all work so well together and make the concerts a success! It’s exciting to be a part of these wonderful musical experiences and work with such great, driven people.

Corinn will be joining the production staff for our 2010 season.
|
Performer and Intern Corinn Springer
I had the honor of performing Mozart's "Requiem" last June at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, conducted by DCINY Artistic Director Jonathan Griffith. At the time I had never heard of DCINY and had been given the opportunity to sing with DCINY through a friend. Prior to the performance we had two days of rehearsal, and during these two days I truly experienced what the DCINY staff was all about. This particular group of singers had a number of elderly people that required special needs. The DCINY staff was extremely accommodating and helped keep everyone comfortable and happy during these long practices.
Once the performance arrived, everything went so smoothly I had no idea how hard the staff was actually working. Everyone was so calm and patient I didn't realize until weeks later that every one of the staff members was working extremely hard to keep everything together. I was so impressed by everyone’s attitude I asked Johanna, the Director of Artistic Operations (she also performed), if DCINY was looking for an intern. It just so happened that there was an opening, and after an interview, I started as an intern the very next week. I worked all summer assisting the Promotions and Audience Development Department wrap up a great year and prepare for another exciting year.
Working with DCINY has been an amazing experience. I have learned so much about what it takes to put together quality performances at world-class concert halls. I have made great friends and look forward to working with Phil Bravo, Production Manager, on the production staff.
