Education
As part of its educational mission, Distinguished Concerts
International New York initiated its Premiere Project in 2009. The purpose of
the Premiere Project is to encourage debuts, premieres, and other firsts by
composers, conductors, soloists, instrumental, and choral ensembles. Whatever
the "premiere," DCINY guarantees that it will receive the best exposure
possible - at one of the world's foremost concert halls, such as Stern
Auditorium at Carnegie Hall or Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York.
Eric Whitacre
For our 2010 season, DCINY commissioned well-known composer and conductor Eric Whitacre to compose a setting of poems by ee cummings. Entitled the city & the sea, the work had its world premiere on April 17, 2010, at Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall, with Mr. Whitacre conducting.
For 2009 season, DCINY commissioned Whitacre to compose two new volumes for his work titled
"Animal Crackers." The first premiered at Avery Fisher Hall on
March 15, 2009 , and the second on June 28,
2009, at the same hall. For both performances, Maestro Whitacre conducted the festival choir, the Distinguished
Concerts Singers International.
During
DCINY's Inaugural Season in 2008, there were several firsts, including the
world premieres of Hymn - In Memoriam: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by Karl
Jenkins; "The Five Changes" by Gregory Youtz; and orchestration for Mass
No. 1 ("Wedding Mass") by Timothy Michael Powell. In January 2009, DCINY
presented the U.S. Premiere of Karl Jenkins' "Stabat Mater."
