DCINY Emerging Conductors
DCINY Debut Conductors

DCINY's Mentoring Program for DCINY Emerging Conductors and DCINY Debut Conductors prepares talented conductors who have demonstrated success in their regional choral or orchestral programs to make their conducting debuts at a major concert hall in New York, including but not limited to Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center or Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall.

Upon acceptance into the program, the DCINY Emerging Conductor or DCINY Debut Conductor is invited by DCINY to conduct a major choral work with a chorus of 150-250 singers, a professional orchestra and professional soloists, comprising a 25-35 minute portion of a concert to be produced by DCINY in New York.

DCINY then pairs the Emerging/Debut Conductor with an experienced mentor who gives the conductor a hands-on overview of the work to be performed, taking into account all of the elements that must come together for a successful performance. Mentors include such first-tier conductors as DCINY's Conductor Laureates -- Paul Salamunovich, Eph Ehly, Vance George, Craig Jessop, and John Alexander, among others.

In the months preceding the concert, DCINY pays the Emerging/Debut Conductor's travel and overnight accommodation expenses for one or two 2-3 hour private sessions with the Mentor at the Mentor's location. If it is more appropriate, DCINY will pay for the Mentor to visit the Emerging/Debut Conductor's hometown. The Mentor's consultation fee is paid by DCINY. If the host ensemble should wish to engage the Mentor as a clinician or as a guest conductor, that opportunity is also possible. A stipend and partial expenses are also paid to the Emerging Conductor or Debut Conductor for rehearsals and their performance in New York.
