Two McNary High School graduates, Shelby Magnuson and Ashley Eddings, will take part in a 9/11 memorial in New York City this weekend.

Magnuson and Eddings will travel with members of the George Fox University choir to join with an additional 150 singers and soloists to perform Rene Clausen's Memorial, composed to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the attacks. George Fox is among a group of choirs, billed as Distinguished Concerts Singers International, that will perform Clausen's piece.

"I'm super-excited. I think this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It's also going to be a very emotional," Magnuson said. "It will be neat to hear from the other choir members about their perspective on events of that day."

The concert, titled A Concert of Comemoration, begins at 2 p.m. in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts' Avery Fisher Hall. It might seem like a lot of people to sing one song, but Memorial is a 65-page piece of music. Clausen himself will conduct the piece.

The George Fox choir received an invitation to participate after event organizers saw a video of the choir singing Kyrie, a portion of Memorial, on YouTube.
