Schools proudly show signs of distinction

The West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South Symphonic Band and the Edison High School Wind Ensemble will perform at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. The students will visit the world-renowned venue as part of Distinguished Concerts International New York's "Excellence in Education" Series.

The West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South Symphonic Band directed by Scott Collins and Anthony Pappalardo will feature a number of pieces such as Selec tions from "Les Miserables," "Stars and Stripes Forever" and "A Festival Prelude."

West Windsor-Plainsboro High School's band includes students in grades 9-12, many of whom have participated in regional, all-state and all-eastern honors bands.

The Edison High School Wind Ensemble directed by Tim Benge will perform classic works by Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin and Percy Grainger.

Edison High School's Wind Ensemble is by audition only and competes in the Region II Concert Band Festival in March every year. The group ranked in third place in Region II in 2006 and was invited to participate in the New Jersey Concert Band Gala.

The New Jersey groups will be joined by the Metropolitan Atlanta Youth Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Robert J. Ambrose. Their repertoire will include works by Steven Bryant, Morton Gould and Donald Grantham.
