Country Day School chorus sings at Carnegie HallJuly 18, 2008Review from My Southside Sun
The summer of 2008 will be a memorable one for several young Southside students, including members of the Jacksonville Country Day School Chorus. About 95 children ages 10 to 17 sang at Carnegie Hall June 29 in a concert conducted by Darren Dailey, artistic and executive director of the Jacksonville Children's chorus. In addition to members of the two choruses, children from the First Coast Christian School Choir and Los Robles Amadeus Choir of California assembled onstage to perform an impressive musical repertoire, including James Papoulis' Oye, Bach's Domine Deus and Mein Friund 1st Mein!, Nick Page's Stars, Songs Faces, David L Brunner's Sir Brother Sun and Rollo Dillworth's Trilogy of Dreams. The group of children sounded so beautiful. This was an incredible experience," said Virginia Dickert, Jacksonville Country Day School Chorus music specialist. The young vocalists were hosted by Distinguished Concerts International New York, which provides opportunities for choral, instrumental, jazz and chamber ensembles, conductors and soloists to perform at venues like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Town Hall in New York City. Several Jasonville Country Day School chorus members who sang at Carnegie Hall were also on Broadway this summer - "Camp Broadway," that is. For the fourth year in a row, under the direction of Dickert, with choreography by Jacksonville Country Day School Dance Specialist Emily Dickert, Camp Broadway Stars showcased a talented group of about 50 campers. Camp counselor Katie Bartow's solo, Someone Like You from Jekyll & Hyde, was a show-stopper. Songs from several Broadway musicals such as Lullaby of Broadway from 42nd Street, I Got the Sun in the Morning from Annie Get Your Gun and Broadway Baby from Follies led to a smiling, flag-waving finale July 11, with George M's You're A Grand Old Flag and resounding applause from parents and fellow campers. |
