They report to school early twice a week to practice singing, but later this month the choir from Peabody Elementary School in Cambridge will take one of the biggest stages in the country.
About 25 students in the "Early Bird Singers" chorus at the school will be traveling to New York for a performance in the Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall on Sunday, June 27.
Wendy Silverberg, the founder and artistic director of the chorus said the kids are in the 4th through 8th grades and they are looking forward to the trip. But she doesn't know if they grasp the intensity of the rehearsals that will be going into the performance.
"They are very excited about the bus ride," Silverberg said. "They are very excited about the movies they can watch."
The choir will be joining the final performance of the season of the Distinguished Concerts International New York.
The Early Bird Singers have also performed at local hospitals, the Charles River Festival, The Urban Choir Festival in Boston, and this fall sang for the 100 Anniversary of Lesley University at Harvard's Sanders Theater.
