Classical Ensemble and Bel Canto Choirs (CA)
The choral program at Mt. Carmel High School includes the auditioned
groups, Classical Vocal Ensemble and Bel Canto, as well as two other
non-auditioned groups. Their reputation for excellence includes
performances at the California ACDA convention, the Golden State
Festival at UCLA, the Holiday Bowl in San Diego and Disneyland's
Candlelight Procession and Ceremony. In 2003, the music department was
recognized by the Grammy Foundation as the number three program in the
United States, followed by another Grammy in 2005 and 2008. Both
Classical Ensemble and Bel Canto have traveled the United States
extensively receiving superior ratings at CMEA, ACDA, and SCVA
festivals.
Marti Martinez received her B.A. in music education and M.A.
in education at San Diego State University. She has been teaching choral
music for twenty years; twelve years at the middle school level and the
last eight years at Mt. Carmel High School. She has been a member of
the San Diego Opera Company and is an active soloist for many concerts
in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas.

N. Cummins
|
Delta State University Chorale (MS)
Delta State University Chorale is the premier large choral ensemble
at DSU. This 40-45 voice choir is comprised of students from a variety
of academic majors across campus. They present several major concerts
throughout the year and tour annually. The Chorale has performed by
invitation at state and regional conferences of the American Choral
Directors Association, including the 2010 ACDA Southern Division
Conference in Memphis. In April 2012, the Chorale will travel to New
York to perform at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Eric Whitacre.
Membership is by audition only.
Mr. Nicholaus B. Cummins is Instructor of Music and Director
of Choral Activities at Delta State University. He received his Bachelor
of Music Education from the University of Mississippi, the Master of
Arts in Music Education from the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB),
and is presently a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral
Conducting at Louisiana State University. Prior to coming to Delta State
University, Mr. Cummins was a Graduate Teaching Fellow at Louisiana
State University where he conducted the LSU Women's Chorale. He also
taught public school choral music in Birmingham, Alabama and in San
Antonio, Texas.

Legacy Christian Academy Concert Choir (TX)
Legacy Christian Academy opened its doors 13 years ago in Frisco,
Texas; the fastest growing city in the United States. The LCA concert
choir is under the direction of Sandra Clark. They have received
Division I-Superior ratings in Concert and Sight-Reading Festivals
through TPSMEA (Texas Private Schools Music Educators Association), ACSI
(Association of Christian Schools International), and the Bluebonnet
Festival held in San Antonio, TX. This year will mark LCA's 5th
invitation to perform in New York City. Past performance include a
2004, 2006, and 2008 performances at Carnegie Hall as part of the ACSI's
Youth Chorale Concert series and in 2010 with the Z. Randall Stroope
Invitational Choral Festival held at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle.
Sandra Clark is in her 13th year at Legacy Christian Academy
in Frisco, Texas where she serves as the Fine Arts Director and Choral
Music Director for grades 6-12. She has taught in both public and
private schools in Arkansas and Texas and also traveled as a cast member
and show manager for the international music group, "Up With People."
Sandra is an active member of ACDA, TCDA, TPSMEA, ACSI and TMEA.
Sandra received her BSE in Music Education from the University of
Arkansas, and her Masters in Music from Boston University. Sandra and
her husband, Mark, have two sons, Byron and Matthew.

J. Chan
|
The Lowell Choir (CA)
The Lowell Choir is the largest choral program in the San Francisco
Unified School District and has a long history of excellence. The choir
received a gold rating from the Heritage Festival and a superior rating
from CMEA, and is frequently invited to perform at functions in the Bay
Area. The choir also works closely with Chanticleer and is a frequent
participant at the Chanticleer Youth Choral Festival. Most recently the
choir has performed at the Chanticleer National Youth Choral Festival at
San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall.
Jason Chan is the director of choral activities at Lowell High
School. He directs four choral ensembles, teaches piano, and produces
the spring musical. Chan holds degrees from the University of Illinois
in Champaign-Urbana and Concordia University, Irvine. He has studied
voice with Cynthia Haymon and George Hernandez, and choral conducting
with Dr. Chester Alwes, Dr. Grant Joe, and Dr. Michael Busch. Chan has
sung with prestigious choirs and has toured and competed in the United
Kingdom, Llangollen, Spain, and throughout California.

A. Felber
|
molto cantabile (Switzerland)
Swiss choir molto cantabile was founded in 2003. The enthusiastic
group of singers from Lucernewassoon recognised by its audience thanks
to their success at various choral competitions. The ensemble won
numerous awards at the international festivals in Tolosa (Spain), Cork
(Ireland), Spittal an der Drau (Austria) and recently participated at
the renowned International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf
(Germany). molto cantabile regularly holds concerts in Switzerland and
its neighboring countries. The choir released four of their concert
programmes on CD as yet and has also appeared on national television.
Andreas Felber studied conducting and singing in Switzerland
at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and graduated with
honours. He practices and expands his skills continuously in workshops
and master classes by different conductors such as Ton Koopman and
Johannes Prinz. Furthermore he has participated in singing master
classes by Margareet Honig, Mariëtte Nollen and Jakob Stämpfli. He was
guest singer and conductor at Lucerne Theatre, and in 2010 he was
musical director of a musical production in Walenstadt, Switzerland. He
also pursues an active career as a concert singer.

Olive Branch High School Choir (MS)
Olive Branch High School Choir in north Mississippi, consists of six
different choirs from all different backgrounds and experiences in
music. Olive Branch Choirs regularly attends choral festivals at the
district and state levels-receiving superior ratings. Choirs from Olive
Branch have appeared at ADCA conventions at the state and regional
level.
Michael Wegener, from St. Louis, Missouri, is currently in his
second year of teaching at Olive Branch High School in Olive Branch,
Mississippi. He received his BME from The University of Mississippi
where he was involved in student chapters of ACDA, MENC, and MCDA. In
addition to teaching, he is an active performer in musical theatre and
opera in the North Mississippi area.

Ridgeland High School Choir (MS)
The Ridgeland High School Choral Program has a tradition of
excellence in performance and leadership. The Choral Department
consists of a Mixed Choir, Women's Choir, Madrigals, Sextets, Mixed
Ensemble and Show Choir. The Choir has consistently achieved Superior
Ratings at Invitational, District and State Competitions. The Choir has
received "Best In Class" Awards at Festivals throughout the State. The
Choir has performed for community activities which include concerts for
the Make-A-Wish and Relay for Life Foundations. The RHS Choir is
honored to be making its third Carnegie Hall Performance.
Lisa Clark is a cum laude graduate of the University of
Mississippi with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. She holds a
Master of Music from Mississippi State University. Her teaching
experience has ranged from kindergarten through the college level. An
accomplished pianist, Ms. Clark has been the Choral Director at
Ridgeland High School, Ridgeland, MS for ten years. She was presented
the "Power of One" award from the Mississippi Governor in 2005. Ms.
Clark was honored to be named the Mississippi Music Educator of the Year
in 2010.

River Dell High School Select Choir (NJ)
The River Dell High School Select Choir was founded by their
director, Lisa Smith, in 1995. Since that time, the Choir has won many
prestigious awards and the hearts of their audiences through their
dynamic performances. The Choir is an auditioned group of dedicated high
school students that rehearse every morning before the school day
begins. The Select Choir has received many awards including a superior
rating in the Washington DC Choral Festival in 2004, 1st place at the
New England Festival of Music in 2006, and a Gold rating at the New York
International Choral Festival in 2003, 2007, 2009, and 2010. The River
Dell Select Choir was also chosen to perform at the Board of Educators
Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey, for the opening ceremonies in
2004.
Lisa Smith is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music
where she obtained a Bachelor of Music degree for trumpet performance
and has earned her Masters in Education from Long Island University.
Lisa has been a music educator in the New York and New Jersey area for
the past 22 years where she has conducted both instrumental and choral
ensembles, achieving numerous first place and Gold awards for their
performances. Lisa was also chosen to conduct the New Jersey Bergen
County Chorus for the 2011 season. In the spring of 2010, she was
chosen as an "Outstanding Bergenite" for teachers making a difference in
education. In 2011, Lisa received the Governor's Award for teacher of
the year. Lisa also works as a professional musician in the New York,
New Jersey area.

Rose Choir (NJ)
Rose Choir is a student-run performing ensemble at Westminster Choir
College. This choir focuses on working with composers on their original
works and offers students the opportunity to conduct and teach new
music.
Kelsey Rose is a sophomore at Westminster Choir College who is
studying Music Education and Theory/Composition. She is currently a
student of Dr. Benjamin Boyle, Rochelle Ellis, and Alan Morrison. She
created Rose Choir as a way of supporting composers, so they could have
their works performed, and work with "real" singers. She also wanted to
provide applied teaching experience for future educators.

Greg A. Oden
|
West Monroe High School Choir (LA)
The West Monroe High School Choir performs numerous concerts each
year throughout the south. They have had several members selected to
the American Choral Directors Association Honor Choruses, LA-ACDA All
State Chorus, LMEA All State Chorus, and other honor organizations. The
members of the choir have performed Britten's Ceremony of Carols,
Handel's Messiah, Poulenc's Stabat Mater, and other masterworks of
choral music. Founded in 1953, the West Monroe High School Choir has
been accorded numerous accolades as a performing choir. The choral
program is comprised of five choirs with over 400 singers. They have
performed both nationally and internationally. This will be their fifth
appearance at Carnegie Hall and their first performance under the
direction of Eric Whitacre.
Greg A. Oden is the Music Coordinator for Ouachita Parish
Schools and is the Director of Choral Activities at West Monroe High
School. Mr. Oden received his university training from Northeast
Louisiana University in both undergraduate and graduate schools with Dr.
Edward Deckard. He has 22 years of experience in middle school, junior
high, high school, and university teaching. A sought after clinician,
adjudicator, and commissioned composer, Mr. Oden has been the musical
director for over 20 local musical theater productions. He has been
commissioned to compose for chorus, solo, and symphonic ensembles. Mr.
Oden is a member of NAFME, ACDA, LA-ACDA, LMEA, District I Choral
Directors Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Vickie Freeman is the Assistant Choral Director at West Monroe
High School. She maintains an active vocal studio, where her students
consistently place well in local and regional competitions. Her
professional affiliations include the American Choral Directors
Association, Louisiana Music Educators Association, and the District I
Choral Directors Association. Mrs. Freeman holds a Bachelor of Music
Education degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches,
Louisiana.

K. Knowles

Winter Springs High School Chorus (FL)
The Winter Springs High School Chorus has a long history of
excellence at various national competitions and Music Performance
Assessments. For years they have scored superior ratings at both
district and state assessments, earning a reputation as one of the most
musical choral programs in the state of Florida. They have sent a large
number of student representatives to the FMEA All-State Choirs, ACDA
Honor Choir, and Solo and Ensemble Performance Assessment. They have
consistently been selected as an Honor Choir in the EPCOT Candlelight
Processional at Disney World in Orlando, performing with the Voices of
Liberty and Walt Disney World Orchestra.
Kara Knowles has been the Chorus, Guitar, and Keyboard teacher
at Winter Springs High School for the past 6 years. She earned her
Certificate of Church Music, Bachelors, and Masters Degrees in Choral
Music Education from Florida State University. She has sung with the
Festival Singers of Florida for the past 3 years, and currently serves
as the Florida Vocal Association District 6 Chair. She is a member of
the Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Vocal Association,
American Choral Directors Association, and the National Association for
Music Education.

I wanted to take the time to thank everyone at DCINY for a lovely
weekend with Eric Whitacre! I also wanted to commend all of you for
being very organized. I could tell that every detail was well thought
out and carried through. There was never a time when I felt like "oh
these people do not know what they are doing"...in fact it was the exact
opposite....I completely trusted that the staff would give us good info
and assure a great time for all. Thanks again, all of you.
