Bonsack Baptist Church Adult Choir (VA)
The Adult Choir of Bonsack Baptist Church, under the direction on
Barry Green, provides music for the Church’s two traditional worship
services weekly. In addition, the 100-voice choir provides special
concerts for the church and community throughout the year, including a
multi-performance Easter pageant. The choir sang in Carnegie Hall in
2008 under the direction on Mark Hayes.
Barry Green has served as Minister of Music at Bonsack
Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia, for over 15 years, where he directs
a large music program for two-year-olds through senior adults. Mr.
Green graduated from Gardner-Webb University with a Bachelor of Arts in
Music Education and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a
degree of Master of Church Music. Barry’s wife, Ann, is an elder law
attorney and they have two children, Joshua and Meredith.

First Baptist Church of Shelby Sanctuary Choir (NC)
The 56-member Sanctuary Choir of First Baptist Church, Shelby, NC,
is the principal choral ensemble and is responsible for worship
leadership each Sunday. The choir embraces an eclectic choral
repertoire that includes historic sacred works and anthem literature
from all periods and many styles. Among recent major works, the choir
has served as the chorus forMenotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors,
sections of Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria in D. The choir is
directed by Andrew Roby, and is thankful to work with two fine
accompanists: Jeri Ledford, organist; and Emily Monroe, pianist.
Andrew Roby currently serves as the minister of music for
First Baptist Church, Shelby, NC, a position he has held since 2001.
He also serves as an adjunct professor at Gardner-Webb University, and
as director of the NC Baptist Singers, a group of 120 professional
church musicians from across the state. Previously, he has served as
Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, and Chair of the
Department of Music at Union University (TN). Earlier choral faculty
appointments included Shorter College (GA) and Asbury College (KY).
Andrew received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Southern
Baptist Theological Seminary, where he studied conducting with Milburn
Price.

First Baptist Church of Forest City Sanctuary Choir (NC)
The Sanctuary Choir, First Baptist Church, Forest City, NC, is one of
eight ensembles at the church. In addition to weekly worship
responsibilities, they present major choral works reflective of the
liturgical calendar. Some of these works include Mass in G, Schubert;
Gloria, Vivaldi; In Nativitatem Domini, Charpentier; In Dulci Jubilo,
Buxtehude; Christmas Oratorio, Saint-Saens; Seven Last Words, Dubois;
and Crucifixion, Stainer. Their annual Advent Carol Concert is a
cherished community tradition. Previous endeavors include a Carnegie
Hall concert featuring the works of Morten Lauridsen and MESSIAH in
Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin and The Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford.
Tony Spencer is minister of music at First Baptist Church,
Forest City, NC; a position he has held since 1982. He received his
Master of Church Music Degree (in vocal pedagogy)) at the Southern
Baptist Theological Seminary’s School of Music in Louisville, KY. Prior
to that, he received degrees from Carson-Newman College and North
Greenville College. He has taught on the faculty of the School of
Divinity at Gardner-Webb University. As an active member of the American
Choral Directors Association, he recently served as Southern Division
Repertoire and Standards Chair for Music in Worship.

Grace Avenue United Methodist Church Adult Choir (TX)
Grace Avenue United Methodist Church was commissioned on August 25,
1999, in Frisco, Texas. From the very beginning Grace Avenue has had a
commitment to musical excellence. Under the direction of Laurie Hanson
Roberts since its inception, the choir has grown from 12 to over 50 and
enjoys leading worship for this dynamic congregation.
The Grace Avenue choir presents 2 – 3 major programs each year. They
enjoy a wide range of repertoire from Vivaldi’s Gloria to Robert Ray’s
Gospel Mass. The trip to New York is the first experience for the
choir to participate in a mass chorus, and they are looking forward to
similar opportunities for growth in the future.
As a feature soloist throughout the United States, Laurie Hanson Roberts
has a career that includes sacred, popular, and operatic styles.
Laurie’s musical versatility has brought her much acclaim. She has
recorded for Word Records and is currently an artist with CQK Music.
Although Laurie’s training is classical, it is her adaptability &
beauty of sound that brings attention to her music. She has sung under
the batons of Sir David Willcocks, Lazslo Heltay, John Rutter, Donald
Neuen, David Davidson, & William Mathias. She has studied at the
prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she worked with Richard
Miller, and has a Masters of Music and Masters of Sacred Music in voice
and choral conducting from Southern Methodist University and Perkins
School of Theology.

Many thanks to DCINY for a first class experience! From the
initial planning stages to the post-concert celebration, every detail
was carefully planned and beautifully orchestrated. The Bluefield
College Choral Department and our individual students experienced
unprecedented musical growth this year as we prepared and ultimately
performed the Brahms REQUIEM at the Lincoln Center. It would not have
been possible without the outstanding work of Iris and entire staff of
DCINY. Thanks for a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Actually, we plan
to return to DCINY in the very near future with our next generation of
choristers!

Bluefield College
Performing in Avery Fisher hall has been the peak of my musical experiences and I doubt that it can ever be surpassed.
Getting the chance to perform in Avery Fisher Hall was definitely a musical experience that I will never forget.
The New York experience is one like none other! The sights and
sounds are beautiful and exciting! Then add the chance to perform the
Brahms REQUIEM at Lincoln Center and it makes for a truly unforgettable
experience!
The New York experience was one I will never forget. The ability to
do missions, sightsee and sing the Brahms REQUIEM at the Lincoln Center
was a wonder for myself and for my friends. God bless New York City!
I never dreamed I would ever sing with a professional orchestra in
the Lincoln Center in New York City. It was an exciting and incredible
experience.

What a wonderful week in NYC capped by a triumphant Lincoln Center
world premiere concert! Even days later, I'm still "buzzing" from the
performance of a lifetime, the audience's enthusiastic reaction, and the
magnificence of Lincoln Center.
To Iris Derke, Jonathan Griffith, Nicole Cotton, and the great folks
at DCINY: Stellar production, stellar organization, and stellar
performance. Thanks so much for the invitation and your willingness to
take a risk on a new work.

First Baptist Church of Forest City Sanctuary Choir
The DCINY event this past weekend with Milburn Price directing
Brahms' REQUIEM was memorable and inspiring. Programs such as this are
valuable tools as part of my goal in maintaining choral excellence.
I want to commend your entire staff. Every detail was planned
efficiently and explained precisely and graciously. Everyone seemed to
enjoy their jobs.
The reception was delicious and I appreciate the way it was handled.
It gave people the opportunity to come and leave as they wished and not
be held captive for 2-3 hours.
