Birmingham Symphonic Winds
Returning to the USA for the first time since their outstanding performance at the prestigious Midwest Clinic, Chicago, in December 2003, the award-winning Birmingham Symphonic Winds from England will present a program entitled Atlantic Crossing.
BSW will perform an exciting blend of British and American pieces featuring internationally acclaimed soloists Simone Rebello and David Childs. Cosmopolitan Magazine award winner and London born percussionist Simone Rebello ("...the most outstanding percussion player of her generation"), who has returned to her alma mater the Royal Northern College of Music as the new Director of Percussion, now hits every drum possible in New York! The concert will also feature the return of the Welsh virtuoso David Childs ("...a world class performer...miraculous technique") on euphonium, this time with an English band!
Repertoire includes:
- Gustav Holst: Jupiter (from The Planets)
- Martin Ellerby: The Canticle of the Sun (percussion concerto)
- Eric Whitacre: Lux Aurumque
- Karl Jenkins: Euphonium Concerto
- Gershwin/Sousa: Humoresque on Swanee
- Ralph Vaughan Williams: "Prelude" from 49th Parallel
- Philip Sparke: Second City Ceremony and A Weekend in New York
