Timothy Powell

Dr. Timothy Michael Powell is Director of Choral Activities at the prestigious and award winning Davidson School of Fine Arts in Augusta, GA, and is an accomplished conductor and composer. Dr. Powell holds a DMA in Conducting from the University of South Carolina where he studied with Larry D. Wyatt. He was the 1999 National Choristers Guild Scholar, a 2002-2003 United States Fulbright Scholar to Bulgaria, and a 2002 Fellow with the prestigious South Carolina Conductors Institute. He received both his Bachelors (cum laude) and his Masters degrees in Church Music from Belmont University where he studied with Timothy W. Sharp. His compositions include numerous major works, including his Wedding Mass, which was premiered at Carnegie Hall in June 2008 under his baton with festival chorus, and his opera His Terrible Swift Sword, which was premiered in April of 2007. In 2011, Dr. Powell will conduct the combined Davidson Chorale, Men's, and Women's Choruses at Lincoln Center along with choirs from around the nation for the world premiere of his piece Incarnatio Mysteria.

Dr. Powell is an active clinician and scholar and holds memberships in the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Society, The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, The Georgia Music Educators Association, MENC: the National Association for Music Education, and the American Choral Director's Association.
