A charismatic and versatile pianist, Jasmin Arakawa captivates audiences with her musical intelligence and highly cultivated sound. Since her solo debut with orchestra at age 16, Jasmin has performed in the USA, Canada, France, Holland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Japan. Most recently she was featured at the Bicentenaire CHOPIN Concert in Victoria Hall, Geneva. Jasmin's other concert appearances include Banff Summer Festival, the International Keyboard Festival (New York), Kyoto International Musical Festival, and Fazioli Pure Piano series. She has attended the Académie Internationale de Musique Château de Rangiport in France, which transmits the spirit of Nadia Boulanger's pedagogy.
Jasmin's special interest in Spanish repertoire grew out of a series of lessons with Alicia de Larrocha in 2004. Subsequently, she has recorded selections from Iberia by Albeniz, sponsored by the Embassy of Spain as a prizewinner at the Tenth Annual Competition in the Performance of Music from Spain and Latin America.
An avid chamber musician, Jasmin has performed widely in Europe and North America and has collaborated with such artists as the cellist Gary Hoffman, and the flutist Tara O'Connor. With her trio, Jasmin has recorded chamber works by Latin American composers such as Astor Piazzolla. Her extensive repertoire also includes large ensemble, opera, and ballet. Also a keen interpreter of art songs, she is in high demand as a collaborative pianist and regularly performs in vocal recitals.
Born in Japan, Jasmin holds degrees from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and Indiana University. She has received awards and scholarships from HIMES Foundation (Japan) and Indianapolis Matinee Musicale. Jasmin is currently completing a doctoral degree at Indiana University where she studies with Emile Naoumoff, and serves as an associate instructor.
