Scott L. Collins hails from Glen Cove, NY. In 3rd grade he began guitar lessons, and in 4th grade he began playing the clarinet in band with his father, Alexander Scott Collins, who was his first band director. Scott's mother Linda also taught music in area public schools. Growing up, Scott enjoyed playing guitar, clarinet, sax, and percussion in a wide variety of ensembles. His teachers of guitar include Frank Sita and Jack Hotopp, and his early clarinet teachers are Eddie Mann and Danny Bank.

After high school Scott earned a scholarship to play clarinet in the
Regimental Band of Valley Forge Military College (VFMC), under COL Danny Jaynes (USA, Ret.) He next attended the Esther Boyer College of Music at Temple University, where he earned degrees in Music Education and Master of Music in Clarinet Performance, studying clarinet with Lawrence Wagner, Ronald Reuben, Kal Opperman, and Anthony Gigliotti.

Since 2004, Scott has served as Band Director at High School South in the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District. High School South, in Princeton Junction, NJ, is home to 1,600 students, about 400 of whom participate in the school music program. Scott teaches Music Theory, directs the Symphonic Concert Band, the Spring Musical Orchestra, and directed the "Pirate" Marching Band from 2004-2008.

Scott has performed as a clarinetist with many ensembles in the Philadelphia area, and in 2008 conducted the Central Jersey honors Symphonic Band. He resides in East Windsor, NJ, with his wife Jenni, and daughters Elli and Margaret.
